frech, i don't know if it was the direction or the actor or what baader was actually like, but the portrayal was a petulant asshole. which if that was intentional, he did fine.
yeah, i LOVED the film. a lot of negative reviews say that people's motivations are unclear or that it's emotionally hollow. i would be on board with that if this was fiction, but with this film, no. on the contrary. i was happy that the movie basically just showed a tight dramatization of what happened, didn't signal emotions like movies usually do, and the story didn't pretend to explain the psychology. respectful choice: the movie is about inexorable conflict, and i'm happy it didn't offer the comfort of explanation.
dw, didn't find it. It's running http://www.finnkino.fi/movie/2473/?lang=eng, but probably subtitled in Finnish, tho. We saw it during the festival, and it didn't have english subtitles then. Quite a challenge for Ivan! :-)
keltanen, I think Moriz Bleibtreu is a great actor, and the asshole Baader was certainly intentional. More great movies with him: Lammbock (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0258760/), "Das Experiment" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0250258/), and of course "Lola rennt" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0130827/). Check them out!
thanks for the recommendations mvo! the performances in general are great, and inextricable from the style (not signalling motivations). of the actors i only recognized bruno ganz from before, and he's an absolute joy that guy!
yup, you'll want to see him in it. his role would be a small one, if there was such a thing. also @ifrade hell yeah, wokalek's gorgeous in the first half.

Yeah, i would swear the girl who was selling the tickets told me "Yes, with english subtitles". Anyway i got the general idea of the movie :P
All actors fine, but my eyes were for Johanna Wokalek (Gudrun Ensslin) with the 60s look :)
